En savoir plus sur le livre
Many years ago, Peter Fraser was captivated by Italo Calvino’s *Invisible Cities* and, upon re-reading it in 2006, felt inspired to photograph his home, London, to create an imagined “city in the mind.” Calvino’s work features a dialogue between the Tartar Emperor Kublai Khan and the explorer Marco Polo, who describes increasingly fabulous cities from his travels, exploring the creative possibilities of a “city.” Many interpret Calvino’s cities as different facets of a single place, possibly Venice. Fraser reinterprets this concept to craft a poetic vision of London that exists beyond the physical realm, accessible only through imagination. Born in Cardiff in 1953, Fraser graduated in photography from Manchester Polytechnic University in 1976. He began using a Plaubel Makina camera in 1982, leading to an exhibition with William Eggleston in 1984. His notable books include *Two Blue Buckets*, *Deep Blue*, and *Lost for Words*. In 2002, the Photographers’ Gallery in London held a twenty-year survey of his work, and he was shortlisted for the Citibank Photography Prize in 2004. An exhibition took place at Brancolini Grimaldi, London, from 25 May to 21 July 2012, co-published with Brancolini Grimaldi.
