This book explores the question of whether there exists a relationship between the efforts at regional integration and the implementation of human rights. A tenant of the expanding European Union is the promotion of human rights, both internally and externally, but would human rights necessarily be advanced if regional integration were to occur in Asia? The authors, whose disciplines range from economics, political science, history and the law, provide perspectives on this and related issues. Dr. Apirat Petchsiri is Associate Professor of Law at Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, and President of ECSA (Thailand) Foundation. Dr. José Luis de Sales Marques is President of the Institute of European Studies of Macau. William Roth is Academic Counsellor to the Interdisciplinary Department of European Studies, Chulalongkorn University.
