This volume explores the intellectual and religious aspects of Muslim cultures in Iran and India during the early-modern and modern periods, focusing on significant transformations that began with the Safavid rise in Iran and the Mughal ascent in India in the sixteenth century. The Safavids' establishment of Shi'ism as the dominant faith in Iran profoundly shaped the country's religious and political identity. Despite the emergence of a Shi'i power in Iran, which contrasted with the Sunni Islam prevalent in India, cultural exchanges flourished between the two regions. Muslim scholars and texts circulated widely, with Safavid Iran significantly influencing the intellectual landscape of India. This collection of essays by various scholars examines these interactions from multiple perspectives. The first chapter addresses the political and social dynamics of the Safavid-Mughal period, while the second focuses on the Shi'i legacy in the Deccan region. The third chapter delves into the activities of mystical circles in both regions. The fourth examines Muslim reformist movements in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and the fifth discusses philosophical and scientific inquiries. The final chapter highlights the encounters between Muslim and Hindu traditions.
