Inwiefern trugen sie zum Export der 'Münchner Schule' bei? The Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, founded in 1808, was one of the most important institutions for the training of artists in the second half of the 19th century, attracting students not only from all over Europe, but also from the United States. This volume – one of the publications dedicated to the bicentennial of the Academy – investigates for the first time the passage of many American artists through Munich from around 1850 to the 1930s: What were their expectations and interests? To what degree did they contribute to exporting the “Munich School”?
