Mobile Response 2008, the Second International Workshop on Mobile Information Technology for Emergency Response, focused on effectively utilizing mobile information technology to enhance emergency response efforts. Recognizing the significant gap between the potential benefits of usable mobile IT and the design challenges in this demanding field, the workshop aimed to bring together researchers and practitioners from various disciplines. This year’s event showcased the latest approaches and technical solutions in mobile information technology for emergency response planning and execution. Participation from research, industry, and public rescue organizations facilitated in-depth discussions on the opportunities and challenges presented by new digital technologies. The call for papers attracted over 25 submissions from 11 countries, including international entries from the USA, Brazil, and Japan. An international Program Committee, comprising experts in mobile information technology and emergency response, selected 12 submissions for presentation. The program also featured two keynote presentations and one invited talk on pressing topics of interest to both the scientific and practitioner communities.
