Rehabilitation today is essential within the health care system, especially given the rise in chronic diseases that necessitate an efficient, specialized, and cost-effective rehabilitation approach. While rehabilitation itself has a long history, research in this field is relatively new. This book provides an overview of topics explored in projects from a rehabilitation research network in South West Germany. It begins with an introduction to the German rehabilitation system and current research, followed by evaluations of integrating inpatient and outpatient treatment concepts. The section on “Differential indication” examines specific rehabilitation methods tailored to the needs of various patient subgroups. The chapter titled “Methods and Health Economics” delves into methodological and economic aspects from three research projects. Lastly, the “Interventions and evaluation” articles outline four rehabilitation interventions focused on psychosomatic, cardiac, and oncological rehabilitation.
