Essays on modern composers and performers are paired with critical evaluations and complete discographies. This edition highlights the vibrancy of Canada's contemporary music scene, showcasing a new generation of performers and composers that emerged since the first edition. The impact of new technologies, demographic changes, and commercial realities are reflected in 820 new entries and expanded sections on topics like ethnomusicology. Approximately 200 earlier entries have been removed or condensed, and overall accessibility has been improved. The work explores the richness and variety of music across Canada, from school bands to rock superstars and community festivals to grand concert halls, detailing the evolution of music as it is studied, performed, and composed nationwide.
