En savoir plus sur le livre
This extensive compilation presents studies conducted over two centuries in continental algology and limnology in Spain. The systematic organization follows the Lange-Bertalot and Krammer proposal from the widely referenced Süsswasserflora. Diatom nomenclature has experienced rapid modifications, particularly since the work of Round et al., leading to at least two distinct taxonomic systems, each endorsed by prominent schools of diatomists. This lack of consensus among diatomists and ecologists on the preferred system has resulted in multiple naming conventions for many species, a practice criticized by Lange-Bertalot in 2001. To address this, both systems are acknowledged in this work, and the index includes all denominations to facilitate searches. While the index may not be exhaustive, it serves as a foundational resource for those interested in diatom distribution in Spain. Additionally, the environmental diversity of the Iberian Peninsula, Balearics, and Canary Islands, which feature various types of fresh and brackish waters, enhances the volume's relevance for those focused on biodiversity. Sections include Introduction, Taxonomic classification adopted and floristic list, References, Nomenclatural proposals, and Index of taxa.
