This volume features articles presented at the Intelligent Information Systems Symposium IIS'2002, held in Sopot, Poland, from June 3-6, 2002. It marks the eleventh symposium organized by the Institute of Computer Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences, focusing on emerging trends in Artificial Intelligence. Since its inception in 1992, the symposium has evolved from a small gathering into a significant event for scientists from Europe, Asia, and North America. The workshops have developed into regular symposia addressing contemporary topics such as Machine Learning, Knowledge Discovery, Natural Language Processing, Knowledge-Based Systems, and Soft Computing, including Fuzzy and Rough Sets, Bayesian Networks, Neural Networks, and Evolutionary Algorithms. Annually, around 50-60 papers are accepted, complemented by tutorials from leading experts in the field. This year's main topics included decision trees, neural networks, clustering methods, and systems addressing imprecision and uncertainty. Notably, there was a continuation of the previous year's trend, highlighting an increase in collaborative contributions and a broader range of practical applications stemming from theoretical research.
