En savoir plus sur le livre
This book features three sections that present innovative ideas regarding the quantity, quality, and condition of the ancient Maya monumental architecture in northeast Petén, Guatemala. Its key contribution is a comprehensive catalogue that offers systematic and updated descriptions for comparative analysis. It details 64 archaeological sites through technical data sheets, some documented for the first time, and includes plans, isometric views, and photographs. The two-volume catalogue (with the first volume published in 2001) covers 128 sites and provides a concise summary through nine charts illustrating site locations, visible urban elements, illegal excavations, architecture at risk of collapse, and conservation priorities. A methodology developed by scientists from Graz University of Technology enables an analysis of urban space across five levels and over 64 variables, highlighting the quality and abundance of spatial solutions while indicating the need for further studies on construction details. The book addresses conservation and the presentation of the built environment as National Heritage, detailing a concept applied over two decades in interventions at Tikal, Yaxhá, Nakum, and other sites. The structural improvements in the Yaxhá-Nakum-Naranjo National Park, adjacent to Tikal, exemplify successful international cooperation between Guatemala and Germany, showcasing the future potential of the archaeological heritag
