This volume of Cytogenetics and Cell Genetics is dedicated to Dr. Ulrich Wolf on the occasion of his retirement. Edited by Drs. Michael Schmid (Würzburg) and Harold P. Klinger (New York, N.Y.) with an introductory laudatio by Dr. Winfrid Krone (Ulm), it contains 56 articles by friends and associates of Ulrich Wolf who have interacted with him in science, philosophy and the arts. Most contributors of this special volume are former students and researchers of the prestigious and prolific 'Freiburg School' of Human Genetics. Covering a wide range of topics, this issue includes reviews or original research reports on molecular and clinical genetics, molecular cytogenetics, tumor genetics, genetic diseases, mutagenesis, sex determination, chromosome organization and function, and immunology, to name but a few examples. Some anecdotal papers relating to Dr. Wolf and prepared by some of his friends are also included.
