This book is about the molecular and immune mechanisms of pathogenesis in cutaneous leishmaniasis. It introduces the reader to the cutaneous leishmaniasis model of invasion and defence against a unicellular parasite. Different views of the parasite and the disease are outlined through the text: biochemistry and ultrastructure, taxonomy of the parasite, the experimental model, the Th1 and Th2 response, humoral aspects and vaccination.
