Control and automation in anesthesia

En savoir plus sur le livre

This book documents presentations from a workshop held in Bonn in May 1994, aimed at uniting scientists and clinicians to explore the theoretical, medical, engineering, and regulatory aspects of automated control in anaesthesiology. It builds on a previous workshop from May 1984, which focused on quantifying anaesthetic depth, modeling drug disposition, linking pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, and controlling drug delivery. The current proceedings offer a broadened perspective by including discussions on anaesthesia machine monitoring, patient therapeutic monitoring, blood pressure control, and artificial ventilation, rather than solely focusing on anaesthetic drugs. However, they narrow the focus by presupposing the processes of quantitation and modeling, allowing for a deeper exploration of control, particularly automated control. Over the past decade, advancements in informatics have significantly enhanced knowledge and methods relevant to these control challenges.
