Bioadhesion

En savoir plus sur le livre

The First International Joint Workshop of the Association for Pharmaceutical Technology (APV) and the Controlled Release Society (CRS) took place in Leiden from May 22-24, 1989. Bioadhesion presents significant challenges and opportunities for the development of controlled drug delivery systems. The growing interest in bioadhesive systems stems from their ability to enhance drug bioavailability through localization in specific regions, prolong residence time, and optimize contact with absorbing surfaces. These features allow for reduced daily dosages across various applications, including the eye, mouth, gastrointestinal tract, rectum, and vagina, ultimately improving patient compliance. This APV paperback encompasses all lectures from the workshop, beginning with foundational aspects of bioadhesion and the physiological roles of mucus and mucoadhesion. Subsequent chapters focus on application routes such as buccal, nasal, gastrointestinal, and ocular. The concluding sections explore future trends in bio(muco)adhesive drug delivery systems. This book serves as a valuable resource for scientists in both industry and academia involved in developing bioadhesive dosage forms and those interested in advancements in controlled drug delivery system design.
