The historical banking district of Berlin, once forgotten, is revitalized by the KfW Bankengruppe building at Gendarmenmarkt, restored to its former glory since 2000. Originally designed by architect Adolf Messel in 1897, the building has been carefully renovated, complemented by a new structure that completes the ensemble. Einer der wichtigsten Bauten des Architekten Adolf Messel von 1897 wurde behutsam und mit viel Fingerspitzengefühl saniert. Ein Neubau schließt die Blocklücke und komplettiert das Gesamtensemble. Architekturkritiker Nikolaus Bernau schreibt über die Geschichte und Bedeutung des Gebäudes und des Berliner Bankenviertels. Aus Anlass des zehnjährigen Jubiläums der KfW Bankengruppe Niederlassung Berlin wurde am 9. September diesen Jahres die Eröffnungsfeier zum „Tag des offenen Denkmals“ in diesem Haus abgehalten.
