During his long activity as a curator and publicist Gerald Matt, the director of Kunsthalle Vienna, made the acquaintance of numerous international artists. In these conversations Matt reveals a considerable ability of asking questions, clearly proving that artists are well able to make significant statements about their work if given the opportunity. Hidden behind the title are 40 interviews with significant contemporaries such as: Matthew Barney, Vanessa Beecroft, Candice Breitz, Steve McQueen, Shirin Neshat, Raymond Pettibon, Santiago Sierra, Francesco Vezzoli, Yang Fudong et al. Numerous color illustrations provide dditional insight into their works.

The exhibition catalog (06.10.2006 – 23.12.2006) features contributions from Raimar Stange and showcases artists including Christine Würmell, Alexander Wolff, Gernot Wieland, Stefan Schuster, Olaf Nicolai, Jonathan Monk, Elke Marhöfer, Michel Majerus, Asta Gröting, Candice Breitz, Øystein Aasan, and Carla Åhlander. This event highlights the collaboration between artists from Lower Austria living in Berlin and their Berlin counterparts. Young artists Stefan Schuster and Gernot Wieland, currently based in Berlin, engage with the vibrant international art scene that has flourished since the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. Their conceptual works involve documenting, collecting, and researching found objects, language, and various images, blending the trivial with the significant. The exhibition “Klartext Berlin” presents artists who, like Schuster and Wieland, explore the medium of text in their art. Instead of following the current "young star hype," the exhibition features three generations of artists: emerging talents Øystein Aasan, Christine Würmell, Alexander Wolff, Elke Marhöfer, and Carla Åhlander; established figures Candice Breitz, Jonathan Monk, Michel Majerus, and Olaf Nicolai; and veteran Asta Gröting, who has been active since the 1980s. All artists share a neo-conceptual approach that incorporates language as a key aesthetic element, addressing political issues such as the erosion of social welfare and aggressive U.

»Hessabi« ist ein persischer Roman auf deutschem Boden, die Coming-of-Age-Geschichte eines Persers, der im Deutschland der 60er-Jahre aufwächst. Jeans, Zigaretten, Politik, die erste große Liebe und immer wieder die Beatles prägen den Ton des Neuseeländers Tom Appleton, der dem jungen Protagonisten eine unverwechselbare Stimme zwischen Erwachsenwerden, Genie und Wahnsinn verleiht. Bonn, Coburg und Heidelberg sind die schulischen Stationen, die der jugendliche Adam Hessabi seinen schlechten Noten und dem großen Ehrgeiz seiner etwas verrückten Eltern zu verdanken hat Hessabi ist Perser und hat wohl gerade deshalb die Gabe, seinem Aufwachsen in Deutschland mit einer gewissen Distanz zu begegnen. Schonungslos erinnert er sich an sadistische Lehrer, Jugendriten und die kleinen verbotenen Fluchten in Musik und Mädchen. An seine Kindheit, die Adam offenbar in Persien verbracht hat, erinnert er sich nicht. Immer wieder stolpert er über seine Vergangenheit. Doch sosehr er das Rätsel um seine Herkunft lösen möchte, es wird ihm nicht gelingen. Im Gegenteil: Seine Familie verstrickt ihn zunehmend in ihre Bande, denn auf fast jede rebellische Pubertät folgt erst einmal die Kapitulation der vermeintlichen Vernunft.
