Ce somptueux volume offre une vue d'ensemble sur cinquante ans de la carrière de Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933), l'un des concepteurs les plus originaux, les plus talentueux et les plus influents de sa génération. Principal propagateur de l'Art Nouveau aux Etats-Unis, il est connu dans le monde entier. Fils aîné de Charles Louis Tiffany, illustre joaillier et argentier, fondateur de la Tiffany et C° à New York au XIXe siècle, Louis Comfort Tiffany refuse de reprendre les affaires de son père et choisit une carrière artistique. Il visite l'Europe et l'Afrique et, à l'âge de 20 ans, est impressionné par la beauté des vitraux qui ornent les églises. Rentré aux Etats-Unis, il s'intéresse au verre et aux mosaïques. Il crée un verre irisé qui, par exposition aux vapeurs et aux oxydes métalliques, prend des couleurs rougeoyantes. S'inspirant du vieux mot anglais " faber ", fait à la main, il le nomme verre Favrille. Ses ateliers Tiffany vont produire des milliers de panneaux, d'abat-jour, de vases, de mosaïques, d'émaux, de bijoux, de bronzes, et autres objets décoratifs. Il s'intéresse également à la décoration intérieure, aux meubles, aux tapis, à la céramique et remporte de nombreuses récompenses et médailles à l'Exposition Internationale de 1900 à Paris. Il aura consacré sa vie à " la recherche du beau ".

Mark Rothko (1903-1970) prônait la liberté artistique, échappant à toute interprétation stricte. Bien qu'associé à l'Expressionnisme abstrait, il préférait parler d'une expérience entre l'œuvre et le spectateur. Ses grandes toiles de couleurs vibrantes expriment la tragédie de la condition humaine et invitent à une interaction profonde avec le public.

When the final tally of key movers in the plastic arts of this century is compiled, there is no doubt that maestro of movement Alexander Calder (1898-1976), the man who put the swing into sculpture, will be near numero uno. Calder took it off the plinth, gave it to the wind, and left us kinetic playgrounds of the spirit. He operated at the point where Modernity and nature Fused, developing an environmental art that changed the medium Forever. Visiting his Paris atelier in 1932, Duchamp coined the term "Mobiles" For Calder's delicate wire and disc pieces, constructions that would soon become immensely popular. But he didn't rest on his innovations. Friends with Miro, Mondrian and Leger, Calder also turned his hand to painting, drawing, gouaches, toys, textiles and utensil design.
