Although the Koma are known throughout the world as a result of the so - called Komaland - terracottas, excavated in the 1980s, no extensive ethnographic publication about their culture has appeared yet. The present book comprises some of the results of Franz Kröger's surveys during six field research trips between 1984 and 2008. It is also based on the profound knowledge of the co - author, Ben Baluri Saibu, a lawyer from the Koma village of Yikpabongo. The main focus of the book is the social, political and economic structure of the Koma, as well as their material culture, and, above all, their traditional religion and the extraordinarily dynamic history. Ghana’s North is a compilation on the region uniting fifteen interdisciplinary articles that provide case studies from the numerous ethnic groups. The central focus is on aspects of adaptation of Northern Ghanaian cultures in view of the rapid change of the natural and cultural environment. The topics range from economic developments, migration, conflicts and peace restoration, land rights, political controversies, religious phenomena, and cultural expression through narratives, music and language. An introductory chapter relates the history of research in Northern Ghana including a bibliography on the most important sources.

Kulturelle Bildung für Kinder und Jugendliche erlebt derzeit eine große öffentliche Wertschätzung. Die interkulturelle Komponente der Kulturellen Bildung und damit die kulturellen Interessen der Kinder und Jugendlichen, die einen Migrationshintergrund haben, gewinnen dabei vor allem unter Integrationsaspekten an Bedeutung. Diese jungen Menschen bilden mittlerweile eine große Gruppe in den Kindergärten und Schulen unseres Landes und werden darin in absehbarer Zeit die Mehrheit stellen. Vor diesem Hintergrund hat die Kulturpolitische Gesellschaft im November 2007 im Auftrag und mit finanzieller Unterstützung des Bundesministeriums für Bildung und Forschung (BMBf) eine Fachtagung ausgerichtet, um unter der Leitfrage »lnterkulturelle Bildung - ein Weg zur Integration?" praktische Erfahrungen, theoretische Erklärungen und politische Anforderungen vorzustellen und zu diskutieren. Dabei kamen sowohl Wissenschaftler, Politiker und Praktiker zur Wort, aber auch Kinder und Jugendliche »als Experten in eigener Sache«. Der Band dokumentiert die Veranstaltung in ihren zentralen Beiträgen. Autorlnnen sind u. a.
