1998 feierten die jüdischen Gemeinden Bern und Biel ihr 150-jähriges Jubiläum. Aus diesem Anlass organisierte das Collegium generale der Universität Bern eine Vortragsreihe, die hier nun in gedruckter Form vorgelegt wird, in der unabhängig von Tagesaktualitäten in breitem Bogen und in interdisziplinärer Zusammenschau Zusammenhänge innerer Aspekte jüdischer Kultur und jüdischen Lebens einerseits und Themenbereiche aus der Interaktion mit ihrer Umwelt andererseits behandelt wurden – letztere mehrfach in Bezug zu den weniger bekannten Verhältnissen im Kanton Bern.
