This anthology introduces a triadic motif to the problem of nomination, overcoming the limitations of a single category through the innovative triad of Nominalization, Nomination, and Naming. It is organized into three sections: the first addresses theoretical and applied aspects of this triptych; the second explores its linguistic context; and the third examines disciplines directly affected by the topic. Contributions often reflect a linguistic perspective while also incorporating anthropological, semiotic, translatological, and didactic viewpoints, appealing to diverse interests. Key topics include the relationship between nomination and ecology, trends in phonology and gender, the creation of new word-blends among blended Americans, and the construction of identity in Irish culture. Other discussions focus on the analysis of names in German literature, the role of iconicity and economy in noun-name constructions, and the integration of literary onomastics within text linguistics. The final section delves into the intersection of nomination and translation, the processes of nominalization in Russian, and the significance of naming in library science. The contributors to this volume approach narrative structures in an broad sense and from different theoretical and methodological points of view. The aspects of the narrative they emphasize are as diverse as pragmatic, cultural, poetic, diachronic, folkloristic or gender specific. The papers are addressed to scholars of the philologies, translatology, sociology, semiotics and to students of English and of other languages. A number of essays will also stir the imagination of the interested undergraduate student.
