The paper discusses the growing significance of commercializing research in academia, particularly the role of universities in technology transfer. It highlights the various forms of technology transfer, with a focus on spin-offs as a prominent method. The establishment of technology transfer offices (TTOs) at research institutions is proposed as a means to assist scientists in developing spin-offs. Despite existing research on individual characteristics influencing spin-off creation, there is a notable gap in literature regarding how TTOs impact scientists' inclination to pursue spin-off opportunities.
