A Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) is a mobile, wireless network that does not necessitate a pre-existing infrastructure. The routing infrastructure needs to be established in a distributed, self-organized way. Many routing protocols for MANETs have been proposed, and some evaluating work has been conducted. The large number of the proposed routing protocols and evaluations makes it difficult to keep track of the development and to get an overview of the strengths and weaknesses of routing protocols. The author Daniel Lang analyses evaluation techniques from the past and describes common problems with simulation based evaluation of routing protocols for MANETs and how to resolve them. Simulation scenarios are examined and evaluated, sample applications are suggested and relations to past and present evaluations are drawn. A comprehensive number of MANET routing protocols is examined and categorized and similarities are deduced and presented. It is proposed that these can be used to reduce the number of experiments. This book is targeted at scientists and institutions conducting research about or pursuing the implementation of Mobile Ad Hoc Networks.
Nach Sommeraufenthalten in Oberammergau (1906) und Seeshaupt am Starnberger See (1907) wählten Thomas und Katia Mann 1908 den Kurort Bad Tölz und kamen dauerhaft immer wieder. Mit nach und nach vier Kindern (Erika, Klaus, Golo und Monika) verbrachten sie hier bis 1917 viele Sommer- und auch einige Wintermonate. Das 1909 an der Heißstraße errichtete und heute noch bestehende stattliche „Landhaus Thomas Mann“ war für den renommierten Autor ländliches Refugium und repräsentative Geste in einem. In seinem „kleinen Arbeitszimmerchen mit dem naiven Blick auf Wiese, Fichtenzaun und Waldgründe“ arbeitete Thomas Mann an wichtigen Texten dieser Zeit, an den Romanen „Königliche Hoheit“ und „Der Zauberberg“ (1924), an der Erzählung „Der Tod in Venedig“ (1912) wie auch an den „Betrachtungen eines Unpoltischen“ (1918). Für die vier Kinder war „Tölz“ der Inbegriff einer glücklichen und scheinbar unbeschwerten Kindheit. Mit vielen bislang unbekannten Dokumenten wie den Bauplänen des „Landhauses Thomas Mann“ und unpublizierten Briefstellen werden hier die Bad-Tölz-Aufenthalte der Familie Mann seit 1908 erstmals detailliert aufgearbeitet. Zugleich begibt sich der Autor auf eine literarische Spurensuche und weist nach, in welchen Werken der Manns Bad Tölz Eingang gefunden hat. Die Dokumentation soll dem Vergessen entgegenwirken und die Erinnerung an die Familie Mann in Bad Tölz als einem Ort der Literatur bewahren.
