      Don Raymondo Aprile, important mafioso new-yorkais, a recueilli Astorre, le fils en bas âge d'un parrain sicilien décédé. Astorre, actionnaire majoritaire des banques de son père adoptif, doit tenir ses promesses et protéger la famille Aprile et ses biens contre des ennemis qu'il faut identifier. Et sa vengeance sera terrible !

      Par l'auteur du ##Parrain##, une plongée dans la frénésie du jeu, du cinéma, du sexe et de l'argent. Ce roman, au vocabulaire cru et même vulgaire, a été diversement apprécié de la critique. Pour les uns, Puzo a écrit un livre prétentieux et d'une "pesante monotonie". Pour d'autres, cet auteur mérite son succès; il est drôle, féroce, talentueux et "sait user de formules percutantes".
