2010 Reprint of 1920 First English Edition. First English translation of Einstein's theory of relativity. In this work Einstein intended, as far as possible, to give an exact insight into the theory of Relativity to those readers who, from a general and scientific philosophical point of view, are interested in the theory, but who are not conversant with the mathematical apparatus of theoretical physics. The theory of relativity enriched physics and astronomy during the 20th century. When first published, relativity superseded a 200-year-old theory of mechanics elucidated by Isaac Newton. It changed perceptions. For example, it overturned the concept of motion from Newton's day, into all motion is relative. Time was no longer uniform and absolute, as related to everyday experience. Furthermore, no longer could physics be understood as space by itself, and time by itself. Instead, an added dimension had to be taken into account with curved space-time. Time now depended on velocity, and contraction became a fundamental consequence at appropriate speeds.

As global market demands increase for companies to reduce their environmental impact, integrating a robust environmental management system (EMS) is essential. Central to this effort is ISO 14000, a comprehensive series of quality management standards. This reference provides clear answers to common questions about ISO 14000 and its specific standard, ISO 14001, helping organizations restructure their environmental systems for continuous improvement. Compliance offers benefits such as reduced regulatory oversight and improved management efficiencies, while lack of certification may lead to lost market share. The book addresses 250 key questions, covering topics like planning an EMS, implementing ISO 14001, conducting EMS audits, evaluating environmental performance, and navigating the certification process. It features cross-referenced, concise answers for quick access, making it a valuable tool for professionals seeking to understand ISO 14000’s implications for their businesses. Industry leaders emphasize its importance for integrating environmental protection into daily operations and enhancing corporate citizenship. This concise guide is essential for environmental and business managers aiming to improve performance and gain a competitive edge.
