Published in the form of a full-colour comic strip and driven principally by the characters Michel and Patricia from Godards Bout de Souffle, MetroBasel is a comprehensive urban study and portrait of Basel and its surroundings. Realised by  the urban research unit ETH StudioBasel, the comic was conceived by Jacques Herzog, Pierre de Meuron and Manuel Herz and narrates the citys architectural and urban history while analysing the region according to urban themes and activities such as living, working, moving or recreation. At the same time it uncovers potentials and shortcomings, ideas and visions of how MetroBasel can transform itself and realise its full potential.

Nairobi, in its short history spanning just over one hundred years, has grown to be one of the most varied and international cities of our contemporary world. Migration has been shown as one of the key forces influencing the city. In the context of Nairobi's complex colonial and post-independence political trajectory, migration has reinforced ethnic, spatial, and economic differences, leading to the formation of multiple power structures. This process is evident in the city's radically different urban patterns. Eine einzigartige Darstellung afrikanischer Architektur der 1960er- und 1970er-Jahre präsentiert auf rund 700 Seiten Schlüsselwerke moderner Architektur in Ghana, Senegal, Kenia, Sambia und der Côte d’Ivoire. Nach der Unabhängigkeit dieser Länder entstanden faszinierende Bauten der Spätmoderne. Das Buch dokumentiert etwa 80 Einzelbauten mit erläuternden Texten, zahlreichen neu aufgenommenen Fotografien und ausgewählten Plänen, darunter Schulen, Regierungsgebäude, Monumente, öffentliche Bauten, Hotels, gewerbliche Anlagen und Wohnsiedlungen. Zu jedem Land gibt es einleitende Analysen, ergänzt durch atmosphärenreiche Fotoessays von Iwan Baan und Alexia Webster. Thematische Beiträge beleuchten spezifische Phänomene und ziehen Parallelen sowie Unterschiede zwischen den fünf Ländern. Es wird untersucht, wie diese Architektur als Ausdrucksmittel der Staatenbildung diente und das komplexe Verhältnis zwischen gebautem Raum, politischer Repräsentation und kultureller Identität in Afrika reflektiert. Die Herkunft der Architekten – ob afrikanisch, aus ehemaligen Kolonialmächten oder Drittländern wie Israel oder Polen – sowie die Rolle der Gebäude im Aufbau einer Zivilgesellschaft oder zur Stützung präsidialer Machtpositionen sind zentrale Themen der politischen Dimensionen dieser Bauten.
