    • North Louisiana private investigator Tree McDowell expects an easy assignment when a bevy of senior citizens hire her to record sound levels from wild parties given by their obnoxious neighbor, Mark Donner. She's happy to help, especially after she experiences Donner's insufferable behavior firsthand. But her job begins to interfere with her personal life when her lover, Aaron B. Abraham, CPA, takes on Donner's half brother, Carlos Navron, a suspected crook, as a client. Tree worries that Aaron B. might get in big trouble with the law, or worse, if he does business with Navron. But then Tree finds Donner dead, and her clients, who have motive and opportunity, are suspected. The police refuse to look further than the seniors, so it's up to Tree to find the real killer. Tree quickly learns that everyone who knew the dead man, except his brother and girlfriend, wouldn't mind having him out of the way. Tree's list of suspects is long, but time is short. One of the seniors is ill with the stress .of police suspicion, so Tree makes a deal with unlikely comrades to trap the killer. She soon finds her own life threatened. Will she be the next victim?

    • "Tuesday fell on a Friday / Doors fell off their hinges [...] These are not bad times / only badly behaved times" ('London-Hong Kong'). Somewhere between the quirky wisdom of Dr. Seuss and the compressed surrealism of Selima Hill, these poems are cheeky and exhilarating, full of strange insights and eternal truths dressed up as onions strapped to the legs (to paraphrase a line from 'Globetrotter'). That Ole is an artist can be seen and felt viscerally in his mesmerizing debut collection. "With what I could fit in a bucket / I made my way through the labyrinth // I was both the mover and the maze / as they say in these parts of the garden" ('Millennium'). "Comic, but deadly serious too, Hagen's poems are mythograms from another spacetime. Anyone looking for straightforward meaning will be frustrated here; these words are not for you but for something inside you. Reading Hagen's verses is like reading precise communiques from another world that is nevertheless within this one. Has poetry ever meant anything else?" - Simon O'Sullivan, artist and co-author of Fictioning: The Myth-Functions of Contemporary Art and Philosophy
