Literární experiment. Autor se zaměřuje na formální stránku textu s cílem zprostředkovat čtenáři co nejplnější informaci, umožnit mu vidět problémy z mnoha úhlů, nahlédnout i samostatně nacházet dosud netušená řešení. Čtenář se v textu může pohybovat na sobě příjemné rovině: text lze vnímat jako hudebně-básnickou skladbu a opájet se slovy bez snahy proniknout dál, lze se vzrušovat životy mladých lidí (kteří možná vůbec mladí nejsou, a možná to ani nejsou lidé), lze si s ním hrát jako s jakýmsi perecovským puzzle nebo nad ním meditovat jako nad pokusem o ilustraci deleuzovských tisíců plošin.

Secese je něco jako postmoderní večírek pro zvané - nebo také jedna z nejdrzejších próz posledních let. Především je to ale text, který funguje. Autor tu nerozvíjí jednolitou linii příběhu, místo toho vypracovává intenzivní „rovinu konzistence". Je to jenom hra? Ve skutečnosti jde o cosi děsivě biologického. Je to skutečná živoucí tkáň: buňky, nervy a impulsy. Ne náhodou se na knihu již předem jako šelmy vrhají ekonomičtí lingvisté a biolingvisté. Jeden z nich např. rozvíjí Deleuzovo přirovnání knihy k elektrické přípojce a popisuje vztah Secese a jejích čtenářů jako vztah umírající včelí královny a dělnic, které ji zaživa slízají: „She is surrounded by a crowd of workers, all with their mouthparts applied to her skin, and this goes on for three or four days, her body slowly shrinking until no more than the shrivelled skin is left."
