Nach den Erfolgen ihrer Romane „Das achte Leben (Für Brilka)“ und zuletzt „Das mangelnde Licht“ (beide in der Frankfurter Verlagsanstalt erschienen) hat Nino Haratischwili ein neues Theaterstück geschrieben: PHÄDRA, IN FLAMMEN ist der erste Teil einer Trilogie über starke Frauen aus der Mythologie. Die Uraufführung am Berliner Ensemble ist für Mai 2023 geplant. Lange schon bewegt sich nichts mehr in Athen. König Theseus ist alt geworden; seine Gattin Phädra gelangweilt – sie sehnen sich danach, die Macht abzugeben und sich zurückzuziehen. Demophon, der Erstgeborene, steht bereit und muss nur noch eben verheiratet werden. Doch mit seiner Braut Persea hält auch Unruhe Einzug in Athen – und in Phädras Leben. Der Hoffnung auf Neues stehen die Ansprüche des Alten gegenüber, religiöser Fundamentalismus macht sich breit, und die bestehende Ordnung gerät, politisch wie privat, ins Wanken. Plötzlich will auch Theseus nichts mehr von einer Machtübergabe wissen, und sein Zweitgeborener Acamas beginnt immer mehr gegen die Wünsche des Vaters zu rebellieren.
