Kirchen-, musik- und literaturgeschichtlich sind die "Hallischen" Lieder bzw. Melodien des Geist=reichen Gesang=Buches (erstmals Halle 1704) und des als zweiter Teil geltenden Neuen Geist=reichen Gesang=Buches (erstmals Halle 1714) noch heute ein Begriff. Nach dem Herausgeber das Freylinghausensche Gesangbuch oder kurz der "Freylinghausen" genannt, wurde diese zweiteilige Anthologie mit ihren zahlreichen Einzelausgaben sowie ihrem oft aufgelegten "Auszug" aus beiden Teilen (zuerst 1718) und ihren beiden Gesamtausgaben (1741 und 1771) zur einflussreichsten Liedsammlung des Pietismus, auf die noch eine ganze Reihe von Texten und Melodien in Gesangbüchern unserer Zeit zurückgeht. Dieses heute schwer zugängliche Schlüsselwerk frühneuzeitlicher evangelischer Gesangbuchliteratur soll mit der geplanten, hier mit dem dritten Textband vorgelegten Edition sowohl der hymnologisch-kirchengeschichtlichen wie der musikwissenschaftlich-philologischen Forschung und Lehre als auch der kirchenmusikalischen Ausbildung und Praxis verfügbar gemacht werden.
