However, after a week of following their “take back control” rules, they realize that their new rules backfired, the kids are becoming more difficult to deal with and they find themselves in a worse place than before. They end up giving in to their children.

Their regular get-togethers only involve topics like work, minivans, dogs, and backyards, while Ed yearns to know more about their hurts, concerns, and need for support. But whenever the conversation turns deep, the subject is changed, and Ed is left feeling lonely and depressed, and he doesn’t know how to change it.
