While Susan and young Eddy will be impacted by his revelation, it is Steele Dillon that will be tested. Friends, fellowship and frying fish make for one long Saturday in a southern setting.
In the first book in the series, Foot, Tree Knockers and Rock Throwers, readers were introduced to the S'cwene'y'ti of the Northern Woods in the 1850's of the American wilds. Trapper Matt McGregor, along with an assortment of other characters, encountered the huge hairy men up close and personal. In this second edition to the Foot trilogy the story advances to the 1970's and 80's where Mattie struggles to come to terms with a journal left by her ancestor, Matt, laying claim to an encounter with these creatures by him, a wagon train, a bunch of trappers and a Spokane Indian tribe. Mattie seeks the truth and undisputable truth by venturing into the shadow of Mount Saint Helen, following a lead from a recent encounter. A former FBI agent seeks evidence of another kind, a mystery that has haunted him and has blemished his career. Beware though. There are other evils that lurk in the Northern Woods, greedy and ruthless. The truth will not always set you free. Sometimes knowing too much can be equally as dangerous as not knowing at all. Consequences can be costly if you dig too deeply into territorial boundaries. Venture too far and returning is all but impossible. Some mysteries should remain just that. Stay away from the great northern woods so warned the Spokane Indian Chief of a time that understood the dangers.
The Horry County Pickers is a trio that formed a friendship and everlasting bond through their love of 'Pick'in'. The band originated in Conway, South Carolina, Horry County. Ron Walker, Danny Singleton and Doug Bell were the original and only members. Their sound was a mixture of Bluegrass and that old timey music of The Carter Family tradition. None of the musicians had formal training. Self-teachers, each learned to pick and play for the mere joy of it. Nothing brought them more gratification than performing free for nursing homes and assisted living facilities. This is their humble beginning and journey as told by them through interviews while reminiscing about the wonderful life they have lived doing what they loved doing. It is also a tribute to their beloved picker remember, Danny Singleton, who passed Sept 1, 2021.Danny and the Pickers forever impacted and changed the lives of those that loyally supported their 'Pick'in' passion. If you ever met them or heard them then you must own this keepsake.
2020 a devilish year tested the world like no other. T. Allen Winn's version of a year gone mad is a fictitious spin on the pandemic, politics and a personal quest by individuals that banded together to reckon the wrongs being forced on them. An unlikely cast of heroes must utilize their talents to confront an enemy both invisible and humanly corrupt to the core. A virus has been intentionally unleashed by those with evil intent. Herd the sheep by covertly instilling fear and uncertainty, a world that obviously never fathomed the unthinkable. Evil often underestimates the power of God and those He has chosen to fight the good fight. Wars are not without battles and heroic valor. Welcome to 2020 and the year the lesson was learned.
Walter and Eleanor Maldanado decide to break tradition and plan to spend Christmas in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee instead of New York City. Their children Austin and Karie are not too keen on the idea, but it was not up for a vote. The family, like many, are recovering and coping with the government covid shutdowns imposed for the past year. Eleanor has been homeschooling their children, not one to warm up to the other options posed. With reservations in the Volunteer state secured, it is just a matter of getting there on schedule. Walter, embracing the thrill of the road trip, remembering those from his childhood, decides that the families could use a little side trip excursion. He detours from the GPS insisting that he do what is necessary to return to the designated route. Family fun awaits even if family isn't too fond of what he has in mind. Again, the Maldanado family does not run a democracy where everyone has a say. Off route and then some, a planned family holiday goes off the grid. Untraditional takes an unforeseen turn. This is the way it has always been, is no more. Can the family hold it together when nothing is going as planned? This is not a Griswold's Christmas vacation, but is one filled with surprises and lessons for those open to learning. Welcome to a Throwback Christmas.
