Soon thereafter, Jared is packed and gone, cutting his vacation short. After he leaves, their mother discusses their differences and her appreciation for both of their abilities and hearts. Booker and his family struggle financially on his social worker wage and he feels the salt on his wound when Jared offers him financial help. Booker's wife reminds him that money is not the measure of a man's worth. Later, the two brothers reconcile and Jared decides to stay.

Still harboring anger and bitterness about the divorce, though, Joyce finds it difficult enough to even see her ex-husband, let alone be asked to dinner by the man. Overwhelmed, Joyce fabricates she is getting married to a dentist. Conner, present for the awkward moment, watches his grief-stricken father walk away, and confronts his mother whom he knows has not gotten over his father. Confronted with this truth, Joyce let's her heart lead, and she attempts to catch up with her husband.

As a date cancels their outing and various chat room friends fail to deliver the connection Jim desires, he turns to a website for lonely people and an internet creation, "Bob the Internet Friend." Bob's valiant attempt to converse with Jim ends with Jim hugging his computer and erasing all his files.
