Miután hosszan időzött odaát, 1990 nyarán már biztosra vette, hogy ő az a valaki. A New York-Budapest metró című könyv első kiadása három év múlva jelent meg. 2013-as sajtóhír, hogy egy ilyesféle (villám)gyorsvasút építését valóban tervezik kínai vállalkozók a következő tíz évben, ha elkészül, néhány óra lesz a menetidő Pekingből New Yorkba. Budapestre valószínűleg azért nem terveznek megállót, mert A New York-Budapest metró már létezik, s álmok évadján menetrendszerűen közlekedik. "Gyula Marton elpilledt a vonaton, behunyta a szemét. Azt álmodta, hogy a New York-Budapest metrón utazik. Két megálló volt az óceánban, a harmadik már Párizs, aztán München, készülődhetett, mert hét perc múlva Budapest következett. Marton azonban az utolsó pillanatban mégse szállt ki. Varsó. Kijev. Moszkva. Két viszonylag hosszú megálló: Novoszibirszk, Peking. Aztán Tokió, majd Honolulu, és máris újra Amerikába ért a metró: Los Angeles! kérem az ajtóknál vigyázni! Marton elmosolyodott. Imádta, hogy ennyire gyorsan és zökkenőmentesen száguldhat előre.
