The study focuses on the structural and fracture analysis of Cenomanian to Maastrichtian units in the Afikpo synclinorium. Three distinct fracture sets were identified: Pre-folding, Syn-Folding, and Post Folding. Utilizing TENSOR software for paleostress analysis, three stress tensors were derived, each corresponding to different geological periods: a transtensional tensor from the Cenomanian to Turonian, an oblique compressive tensor from the Santonian, and another transtensional tensor from the Campanian to Maastrichtian. These findings are linked to broader tectonic stress regimes in the Benue trough and the West and Central African Rift System.
