So konzentrierten sie sich damals auf die Fragen der "Gnosis", also der Erkenntnis und des "Anthropos", des Menschen, insofern er sich von den Tieren und allen anderen Lebewesen "niederer Ordnung" unterscheidet. Der Mensch, dieses vernunftbegabte Lebewesen, trägt in der Tat die Kraft des Denkens in sich. Er ist das Subjekt der Erkenntnis durch die Möglichkeiten der Vernunft. Diesem Anthropos schreibt man eine vergängliche körperliche oder materielle Qualität zu und eine andere, psychische oder geistige, unvergängliche. In der Doppelbewegung von Transzendenz und Immanenz des "Theos" in der Welt gelingt es dem Menschen, mit ihm in Handel zu treten. Dann durch seinen Körper und seine Seele.
