John Pentland Mahaffy

    Ce polymathe irlandais à la vaste érudition fut une figure marquante dans le domaine des études classiques et de la papyrologie. Il occupa une chaire d'Histoire Ancienne au Trinity College de Dublin, pour finalement en devenir le Provôt. Ses nombreux ouvrages abordèrent un large éventail de sujets, ses écrits sur l'« Âge d'Argent » de la Grèce devenant des références standards. Au-delà de ses réalisations académiques, il démontra un talent musical en composant des airs pour les offices de chapelle.
