Il fut également scientifique, cosmologiste, mathématicien et spécialiste de la musique. Vénéré dans la tradition philosophique arabe comme "le Second Maître" après Aristote, il est crédité de la préservation des textes grecs originaux grâce à ses commentaires et traités au Moyen Âge. Sa vaste influence s'étendit à de nombreux philosophes de premier plan, faisant connaître et respecter son travail tant en Orient qu'en Occident.
