Focusing on the establishment of the Congested Districts Board in 1891, the book examines its transformative effects on County Donegal's economy, politics, and culture. Amidst recovery from the Land War and poor harvests, the CDB aimed to alleviate poverty through industrial growth, agricultural enhancement, and women's empowerment in arts and crafts. Key achievements included the rise of the carpet industry, particularly Killybegs Carpets, and thriving lace schools. By the time the CDB concluded its efforts in 1923, Donegal experienced renewed hope and progress.
