It is 1888. After Holmes had exposed the Baron's guilt in the notorious Ripper crimes, the Baron Barlucci escaped London with Abigail Drake. They left on the barque, the Animus Lacuna. The ship was reported lost at sea, and soon after, some Newfoundland fishermen discovered a longboat carrying Drake's body. But when Scotland Yard Inspector Andrews came to claim the body, it had disappeared. The Yard called for Holmes to investigate. Soon Holmes and Watson found themselves back in New York, working with (and sometimes despite) New York Police detectives Mylo Strumm and Michael Murray. While Holmes and Watson attempt to discover how Drake's body had disappeared, Strumm and Murray were investigating a series of New York murders that look remarkably like the "Ripper" murders of London.

It is 1888. A criminal called Jack the Ripper is loose in London, and Inspector Abberline is baffled. Commissioner Sir Charles Warren is furious and the public is demanding an arrest. As a last resort, Inspector Abberline asks Holmes for assistance. Skill, experience, and luck lead Holmes and Watson directly to the Italian financier, Baron Antonio Barlucci. The long-time friend of Commander Warren, Barlucci is a ruthless vampire, whose bloody trail stretches from London to Paris. He's in London to seek the help of Dr. Alan Tramaine, to cure his vampirism, for he's fallen in love with Sir Charles' niece. If Holmes and Watson can't prove the Baron's guilt and quickly, an innocent man will swing from the gallows.

    • It has been 25 years since Holmes and Watson hunted Barlucci. They only quit when they knew he'd been buried under a mountain of ice and snow. But a series of incidents have caused Holmes to abandon his retirement and resume the hunt. Bodies are washing up along the coasts of Nova Scotia and Maine, one, completely drained of blood. Then a "ghost" ship formerly owned by Barlucci, grounded near Manhattan, its captain dead at the helm. When Holmes approaches his old friend to ask his help, Dr. Watson is concerned about his old colleague's health. Is Holmes seeing connections where none exist? Could obsession with the Baron Barlucci have unbalanced Holmes' mind?
