The book offers a comprehensive study of newly discovered texts that reinterpret the Book of Joshua, specifically focusing on six scrolls from the Qumran caves and Masada. It provides improved editions and in-depth commentary on each manuscript, analyzing their biblical exegesis. Furthermore, it challenges the prevailing view that these scrolls represent a single composition, situating them within the broader context of Second Temple Jewish literature related to the figure of Joshua. This scholarly work aims to fill a significant gap in the existing literature.

Some of the Dead Sea Scrolls are texts which rewrite the Hebrew Bible and shed light on the origins and sources of Qumran ascetic community. Most of the scholarly attention has been focused on the larger specimens of this genre, such as Jubilees and the Genesis Apocryphon. The present volume assembles for the first time eleven smaller texts of this type and analyzes them in order to see how they fit into the wider picture of the scrolls.
