Focusing on the evolution of political competition and electoral geography in Mozambique from 1994 to 2014, this study examines the transition to multiparty democracy initiated in 1990. It employs bibliographical research and analysis of official electoral data to explore how the social foundations of the dominant parties, FRELIMO and RENAMO, influence electoral dynamics. The findings highlight the control these parties exert over electoral management institutions, shaping the landscape of political competition and electoral distribution throughout the country.
