Excerpt from Memoirs and Correspondence of Francis Horner, M. P, Vol. 1 of 2 Soon after Mr. Homer's death, in the spring of 1817, his family and more intimate friends were desirous that a biographical memoir of him should be published, ample materials for such a work having been found. He left several papers in his own handwriting, which disclosed many interesting circumstances in his early life and education, and others which threw light on the history of his later years. An extensive series of letters from various correspondents was also found, and when application was made to the writers of them, a large number of my brother's own letters was obtained; his friends very generally expressing a kind interest in the contemplated work.
