Focusing on the experiences of sub-Saharan African immigrants in Vancouver, the book explores how individuals from diverse backgrounds unite under a shared identity as ‘African.’ Through interviews with sixty-one participants from twenty-one countries, Gillian Creese examines the gendered and racialized dynamics involved in forming a new community amid marginalization and exclusion. The study sheds light on the complexities of identity and belonging within the context of the African diaspora in Canada.
