Colin Nutt Livres

This book is arranged in the form of a journey around Orkney that begins and ends with what approaching (and departing) travellers see from the Scrabster to Stromness ferry. As Stromness is situated on the western edge of Orkney's Mainland, it is a good point from which to begin a broadly circular tour which takes in most of the 17 inhabited islands. There is an astonishing density of ancient sites from the Neolithic, Bronze and Iron Ages, coastal scenery that tests the credulity in its often gravity-defying qualities and pastoral vistas that sooth the senses. If those attributes were not enough, add in a charming capital with magnificent cathedral, a wealth of wildlife that will entrance nature lovers and a huge array of defensive remnants from both world wars. The book contains 110 pictures.

The Isle of Arran sits cradled within the stretch of sea between Ayrshire to its east and the Mull of Kintrye to its west. It is often described as Scotland in miniature because, just like the rest of Scotland, it has everything! Its character is extremely diverse. On the wild side there are craggy mountains, Goatfell being the highest while Cir Mhor is the most challenging. Arran s top 10 peaks are all above 610m/2000ft. The island is blessed with lovely glens, waterfalls and rivers and a fine collection of villages. The port and main resort is Brodick, nicely framed by the backdrop of Goatfell and the surrounding mountains which provide a constantly changing scene according to the time of year, the weather conditions and the time of day.

A photographic journey around the city of Dundee and the surrounding county of Angus that aims to capture their differing characters and illustrate the principal landmarks and places of interest. Such is the importance of the historic events that took place here that Angus is branded as 'Scotland's Birthplace'. The variety in this part of Scotland is extreme, from the country's fourth city to the wonderfully scenic Angus Glens. In between is a large proportion of Scotland's best agricultural land which creates yet another type of photogenic landscape. Illustrated with over 100 colour photographs, most of which have been taken especially for this purpose.

Remote yet so rewarding to visit, Coll & Tiree sit side by side out beyond the Isle of Mull. But for two such close neighbours, their characters are quite different. Low-lying Tiree has become Scotland's wind-surfing capital thanks to its wonderful beaches. Coll is rockier, less populated and is the choice for those seeking a quiet retreat from the busy world.
This title takes the reader on a photographic tour of Lochaber.

Castles such as Blackness, Crichton and Dirleton line up with stately homes like Lennoxlove and Hopetoun. The landscapes of the Pentland and Lammermuir Hills form a backdrop to the region, while the coastal strip also contains much to see. Illustrated with over 80 colour photographs, most of which have been taken especially for this book.
