Ancien homme fort de cirque, il fut dépêché par le consul britannique en Égypte pour retirer avec une grande habileté du Ramesseum de Thèbes le buste colossal de Ramsès II, communément appelé "le Jeune Memnon". Cette pièce, expédiée par Belzoni en Angleterre, reste exposée en bonne place au British Museum, témoignant de ses expéditions audacieuses et souvent controversées dans le passé de l'Égypte.
Travels in Egypt and Nubia is the travel journal of Giovanni Belzoni, in which he tells the story of three journeys made between 1815 and 1819 and describes the historic monuments of Ancient Egypt, such as the temple at Abu Simbel, the pyramid at Khafre and the tomb of Seti I.
