Ces deux volumes regroupent les contributions des membres de l'Union Internationale des Sciences Prehistoriques et Protohistoriques (UISPP), a un projet lance en 2017, avec le soutien de l'Union Academique Internationale (UAI), sous le titre Les societes humaines face aux changements climatiques dans la prehistoire et la protohistoire: des origines de l'Humanite au debut des temps historiques . Le premier volume concerne la prehistoire des origines a la fin du pleistocene, il y a douze mille ans. Les societes humaines ont connu depuis trois millions d'annees une grande alternance de periodes glaciaires et interglaciaires. Quels climats ont-ils ete les plus favorables aux peuplements humains ? Quels climats ont-ils ete les plus defavorables aux peuplements humains et ont-ils entraines des abandons de territoires, des effondrements de societes et des extinctions de la population humaine ? Quand et sous quels climats les groupes humains ont-ils colonise l'ensemble des continents de la planete ? Une periode d'amelioration climatique avec un climat chaud et humide est-elle plus ou moins favorable au developpement des societes humaines qu'une periode de pejoration climatique ? Le changement climatique est-il un facteur d'evolution pour les societes humaines, les forcant a s'adapter et a trouver des solutions durables ?
