Rumi, ein bedeutender Sufimeister und persischer Dichter, lebte in Anatolien und gründete den Mevlevi-Orden.

Mevlâna, yaşadığı dönemde “Bizden sonra Mesnevî şeyhlik edecek ve arayanlara doğru yolu gösterecek; onları yönetecek ve onlara önderlik edecektir” demişti. Bu sözden alınan ilham ile, Mesnevî tarih boyunca birçok tercüme ve şerhe konu olmuştur. Süleyman Mehmed Nahîfî (ö.1738) Mevlevîlerin elkitabı olan bu eseri, aynı aruz vezninde manzum olarak tamamını tercüme eden ilk kişidir. Bu çalışma ise, onun bu tercümesinin Âmil Çelebioğlu tarafından yapılan sadeleştirilmiş metnini ihtiva etmektedir. “Bin yıllık Türk kültür tarihinin en büyük simalarından biri olan Mevlânâ (öl. 672/1273) büyük bir âlim, derin bir sûfî ve iyi bir şairdir.
