Aaron Copland

    Aaron Copland fut considéré comme le compositeur américain par excellence pendant des décennies, ses œuvres couvrant des genres allant du ballet et de la musique orchestrale aux bandes sonores de films. Son développement musical refléta les tendances clés de son époque, passant des premières explorations des rythmes jazz et du néoclassicisme à un style simplifié qui lui permit de toucher un public plus large par le biais de la radio et du cinéma. Dans sa carrière ultérieure, Copland adopta également les techniques dodécaphoniques, comme en témoigne sa composition pour l'inauguration du Lincoln Center. Après 1970, il cessa de composer mais continua à donner des conférences et à diriger.
