Der ehemalige Gauner Clancey ist auf einer Gefängnis-Insel inhaftiert: die Endstation für alle alten Menschen, die angeblich keinen Beitrag mehr zur Gesellschaft leisten können. Clancey ist in die Jahre gekommen. Früher stand er als „Mann fürs Grobe“ in Diensten der Mafia. Jetzt zählt er zu den Ausgestoßenen: Er lebt auf einer Insel, auf die alle Alten und Gebrechlichen ausgelagert werden. Hier herrscht ein ständiger Kampf ums Überleben, und es gibt keinen Schutz vor den Scheusalen, die die Menschen in nebligen Nächten quälen.
