Le capitaine Lemuel Gulliver est emmené par la mer vers des mondes fantastiques où il se retrouve tantôt géant parmi des nains, tantôt nain parmi des géants, et un être humain honteux de sa condition dans une terre peuplée de chevaux sages, plus humains que les hommes eux-mêmes, qui se méfient, à juste titre, de ces derniers. Geburtstag Swifts brachte der Aufbau Verlag die dreibändige Werkausgabe heraus, die der Insel Verlag, durch ein Nachwort Martin Walsers erweitert, nun als Lizenzausgabe vorlegt.Der erste Band umfaßt Schriften vorwiegend satirischen Charakters zu Religion, Moral, Erziehung, Literatur und zu anderen Themen und Problemen der Zeit. Der zweite Band vereinigt politische Schriften, wobei thematisch die Unterdrückung Irlands durch England einen breiten Raum einnimmt - Schriften, die gerade heute nichts von ihrer Aktualität verloren haben. Der dritte Band bringt den vollständigen Text von "Gullivers Reisen".Die für Band I und II ausgewählten Schriften wurden neu übersetzt. Für Band III wurde eine ältere Übersetzung benutzt, die jedoch gründlich revidiert wurde. Einleitung und Anmerkungen ergeben einen wissenschaftlichen Kommentar, der die neuesten Ergebnisse der Swift-Forschung berücksichtigt. Damit liegt die erste philologische Swift-Ausgabe in deutscher Sprache vor. Herausgeber ist der Berliner Anglist Anselm Schlösser.
